Nobody can live alon. Because man is social animal. He wants company. We know that man is rational animal. Man can exchange emotion, thoughts and ideas. Indeed his pleasure loses half its charms if there is no friend to share it. Friendship is a relation of reciprocal attachment and naturally protecting interest between two or more persons. It is based on mutual esteem and affection. It often springs from the same type of taste, feeling and sentiment. It may also be formed from a sense of gratitude as well as from close contact. Sometimes it is determined by chance or necessity. But once formed true friendship lasts till the end.
Aristotle said, "A true friend is one soul in two bodies. " He is like one's other self. In fact, a true friend is an asset and a treasure in our life. He is a friend in our need. He stands by us in both weal and woe. He remains by the side of our sick bed when we are ill. Even if we sink deep in sin, he does not avoid us. He bears with our infirmity and tries to correct is if er go wrong. He exults in our prosperity and feels miserable in our adversity. Even if disgrace settles upon us, he loves us. Even of the whole world casts us off, he will not leave us. He can sacrifice his own interests for our sake. In fact, a true friend can sacrifice his own everything for his friend. He is more than a brother to his friends. For brothers may sometimes quarrel but true friends always cherish good things towards each other. In the midst of various troubles and misfortunes, he gives us consolation, help and advice. But such friends are hardly found nowadays.
"Prosperity gains friends but adversity tries them is a fine proved. Really speaking, we have often friends who gather around in our palmy days. They remain with us as long as they find it convenient. Their object is to extort money and advantages from us. They desert us as soon as they feel that we have nothing more to offer. These so called friends are more dangerous then even our known enemies. They come to us in the guise of friends only to do us harm. We should beware of such false friends.
Jealousy is the poison of friendship. Really, only friendship begets friendship. Mutual trust and faith are essential to friendship. But nowadays man is getting narrow minded and selfish because of hardship of life. He cannot make great sacrifices for the sake of others. Hence sincere and earnest friends are rare today. We should be very careful in the choice of friends. We should therefore, take a long time to choose a friend. Chance makes our parents, but choice makes our friends.
Clande Mer Et says:
Friends are like melon. Shall I tell you why?
To find one good, you must a hundred try.
